He stands at the back there alone, Sir,
with his tymps, his cymbals and drums.
His eye on the "stick" his mind on the "dots",
which he's counting, and soon, in he comes.
In front sit the rest of the Band, Sir,
with claris and trumpets galore,
the eupho and horns, the oboe and flute,
and the noble trombones to the fore.
His nearest pals are in the basses,
with sometimes a string one or two,
but he's up there alone and just waiting,
keeps counting the bars to his cue.
The rest of the band had their solos,
they're "Fat" to show what they can do.
But for the bloke on the drums it's the Finale,
as "The Queens" when the concerts is through.
So remember, you blokes on percussion,
your importance is high in the band,
and there's one thing they can't argue,
that the drum was first in the Land.
